HYDROCARBON REFRIGERANT TRAINING

May 05, 2022 @ 8:30 am - 12:00 pm - Crossroads Grand Rapids

Flammable hydrocarbon refrigerants such as propane have been approved for use in specific applications under the EPA’s Significant New Alternatives Policy (SNAP). Because of this, several commercial refrigeration equipment manufacturers are switching over to propane for their entire product line. It is only a matter of time before technicians in the field will begin to encounter refrigeration systems utilizing hydrocarbon refrigerants.  It is recommended that only experienced professionals handle flammable hydrocarbon refrigerants such as propane. This course is designed to introduce hydrocarbon refrigerants as well as their regulations, standards, and safe handling procedures to experienced technicians.

Topics covered Include:

  • Hydrocarbon refrigerant regulations and standards
  • Refrigerant handling safety
  • Compressor terminal venting
  • Compressor change out
  • System flushing, purging, and leak testing
  • Servicing procedures

As part of this course, a training manual will be provided in advance that covers the class objectives. At the end of the course, an open-book 50 question assessment will be provided that verifies the comprehension of the course material.

Students who successfully pass the assessment with a score of 88% or better (44 correct out of 50 questions) will receive an RSES Course Completion Certificate.
