Local Company History

Our local store group began as Comfort Control Supply in Holland, Michigan in 1975 as a partnership between Cloyd and Marjorie Weaver and Dennis Olsen. These three entrepreneurs initially refurbished and sold mobile home burners along with other accessories for the manufactured home industry. The Weaver’s son-in-law, Cal Garbrecht, joined the very next year.

The fledgling company expanded into the full residential HVAC market when they purchased the inventory and building of the Hopson-Bennett Company in 1977. They then moved operations to Muskegon where the company headquarters is located today.

In 1988, the company joined the Johnstone Supply national cooperative. This brought a much larger product selection, better pricing and enhanced marketing through a celebrated national catalog. As the company grew, branches were opened in Grand Rapids 1994, Holland 1999, Kalamazoo 2003, Comstock Park 2008, and Benton Harbor 2015. Then in January of 2017 the company started acquisitions of existing Johnstone Supply store groups, South Bend and Elkhart 2017, Lansing and Jackson 2022 and Traverse City and Petoskey 2024. Today Comfort Control Supply better known as Johnstone Supply Muskegon Group operates 12 locations in total.

Major determining factors to our continuing success are our knowledgeable team members and our philosophy of honesty and integrity while always putting customers first. Over the years, God has blessed this business in many ways. It is our goal that our efforts are pleasing to Him as well as to our customers, vendors and team members.
