Part 1: Ingredients

•Lab measuring the actual CFM on a system. Static pressure method. Temperature rise method. Anemometer.
•Equivalent Footage: Why does using the wrong fittings slow the air? Determine better fittings for smooth airflow.
•Flexible Duct: When should it be used in a forced air duct system.
•Understanding and using an air duct sizing calculator.
•Lab Introduction of the duct design project on a building drawing. Supply Duct Design. Return Duct Design.
Part 2: Design
•Measuring CFM by Velocity Method with Lab exercises.
•Lab Continuation of the Duct design project from the first session. Consider duct design on longer than one hundred feet of duct or shorter duct. Friction in design. Best velocity.
•Solving Problems in existing ducts. Branch dampers
•Flexible Ductwork: Good? Bad? How do duct compression, duct support, and careful 90° bends come into play when utilizing flexible duct?
•Ovalizing Sheet Metal Ductwork. Will Oval duct conduct the same airflow as round without affecting static pressure?
•The effects of insulating or sealing your ducts.
•The effectiveness of an existing duct system. Troubleshooting duct systems. When replacing equipment, what should be considered?
•Does selection of evaporator coils on replacement equipment affect airflow?
•Post test.

Will need reliable internet, a computer with camera & microphone, in a clean, quiet space to test.  If retesting, please show online proctor the results from your previous test.  (Spanish study manual & test available upon request.)

TECH 101 & ETSD / Electronics Testing & System Diagnostics Training Class

This full day course provides a great technical overview of Fujitsu’s H-series products while complimenting it with application ideas, installation hints, tips, and requirements. Students will learn about the new R-32 mini split options offered by Fujitsu.  In addition, the Electronics Testing & System Diagnostic (ETSD) portion of this class will provide in-depth troubleshooting for H-series Inverter systems. This will be a HANDS-ON portion of the course offering a guided teardown of a typical wall-mounted indoor unit, and classroom style training on multi-meters, DC controls and circuits with diagnosis and testing of Fujitsu outdoor unit circuit boards.

Required to Bring to Class:  Students need to bring a digital multi-meter with fresh batteries to the class. Multi-meter should be capable of specific component testing; this includes the diode check function and a 4 to10 mega-ohm testing capability.

Seating is limited to the first 20 students!

Students learn to identify and understand the operation of boiler components and hot water piping arrangements. Installation, service, and troubleshooting issues will also be covered.

As part of this hands-on course, participants will assemble and wire a control module that incorporates thermostats, zone valves, and an aquastat relay.

Topics Include:

● Types of hot water boilers including the difference between high mass and low mass

● Boiler system components and their function – used for safety and control

● Different types of piping arrangements and their applications

● The function of hot water circulating pumps and zone valve operation

● Compare and contrast different types of hot water terminal devices

● Operation of radiant hot water systems for in-floor heating and snow melt

● Basic installation practices including proper location of expansion tanks

● How to service and troubleshoot common system issues

Flammable hydrocarbon refrigerants such as propane have been approved for use in specific applications under the EPA’s Significant New Alternatives Policy (SNAP). Because of this, most commercial refrigeration equipment manufacturers have switched over to propane and isobutane for their entire product line of coolers and freezers.

An emphasis will be placed on how commercial refrigeration equipment differs from conventional air conditioning, including components and their functionality.
